Isikhungo Sabantu Financial Services Cooperative (IS FSC) is a CFI. A CFI is a cooperative financial institution that is governed and owns by its members that are shareholders in the CFI. This CFI has been formed from the educational NPO Isikhungo Sabantu. The NPO aims to alleviate poverty through education. The NGO though that the first way to alleviate poverty is through financial literacy, and this is how the bank was born.

Isikhungo Sabantu FSC (IS FSC) was created to empower Isikhungo Sabantu NPO members by financial education and financial products that would empower the members instead of indebting them. Each member of Isikhungo Sabantu NPO that decides to join Isikhungo Sabantu FSC owns a part of the bank which is called a share. Every members are therefore shareholders in the bank, have a voice and a say in the bank. This means that all shareholders can vote, and suggest products and services they want to see in the bank.
